Bodum Chambord vs Brazil 34 oz: What Changes Besides the Frame?

These two glass French presses share the same nominal capacity and basic brewing method. The clearest differences are the frame, lid, dimensions and appearance.

Best for

Coffee drinkers choosing between the chrome Chambord and black Brazil in the same 34 oz glass size.

Probably not for

An insulated travel mug, a shatterproof brewer, automatic brewing or a paper-filter-style cup with no fine sediment.

Bodum Chambord 34 oz, Chrome Glass Version

The 1928-16US4 pairs a glass beaker with a chrome-plated stainless-steel frame and lid, a polypropylene handle and a stainless-steel plunger. Its open metal frame is the defining design feature. It is not the Tritan version or a smaller Chambord that happens to share the same product-family name.

Pros

  • The metal frame and lid suit someone who wants the classic chrome presentation at the table.
  • Reusable filtration avoids needing paper filters for each batch.

Cons

  • The glass remains breakable even with a metal frame around it.
  • The published overall width and height are greater than the same-capacity Brazil.

Who it’s for: Choose it when the metal frame and table presentation are worth prioritizing. Pass if you expect insulation, a metal carafe or a proven flavor advantage.

Bodum Brazil 34 oz, Black Glass Version

The 1548-01US uses a borosilicate-glass carafe with a plastic body, handle and domed lid. A stainless-steel filter and plunger handle the brewing process. Bodum specifies that all parts of this version are dishwasher safe.

Pros

  • The simpler housing keeps the same nominal capacity within smaller published overall dimensions.
  • Bodum provides an explicit all-parts dishwasher-safe care statement for this model.

Cons

  • The plastic exterior will not suit someone specifically seeking a metal frame and lid.
  • It is still a glass tabletop brewer, not a robust sealed container for a travel bag.

Who it’s for: Choose it for the basic glass French-press workflow and a simpler exterior. Pass if metal construction is the feature you actually want.

Eight cups is not eight large mugs

Bodum uses a small European cup convention of about four ounces. The 34 oz size therefore should not be read as eight American coffee mugs. Two large servings or several small servings are a more useful way to picture the nominal capacity, and grounds plus the space needed for safe plunging reduce how literally you can treat a brimful volume.

Measure your favorite mug before ordering. If everyone in the household fills a large mug and wants a refill, changing from Brazil to Chambord in the same size will not solve the capacity problem. If you usually brew for yourself, ask whether a smaller batch in a smaller press would be easier to manage than buying a large model for occasional visitors.

Buy the frame for its design, not an untested flavor promise

Both versions immerse grounds in hot water and separate them with reusable metal filtration. The change from a plastic frame to chrome-plated steel does not supply evidence that one extracts more flavor or removes more sediment. This guide compares construction and fit; it does not rank the taste of coffee from an unperformed brew test.

If your current coffee disappoints you, identify the problem before buying a different frame. Is the grind inconsistent, the coffee stale, the dose hard to repeat, or the brew left sitting on the grounds? A new exterior will not automatically change those habits. A scale, suitable grinder or a more consistent routine may address the actual frustration while leaving the brewer unchanged.

Think about where it sits and how it gets washed

The overall width includes the handle, so check a crowded coffee shelf rather than comparing only the beaker diameter. Chambord is wider and taller in the published specifications. That can matter under a low shelf or beside a kettle even though both hold the same nominal volume. Leave enough space above either press to lift out the plunger safely.

Brazil has a straightforward dishwasher-safe statement for all parts. For Chambord, follow the instructions supplied with the exact finish and glass version; a family name does not justify applying care directions from a different model. In either case, make cleaning the filter assembly part of the routine rather than treating a quick rinse of the glass as the entire job.

When neither is the right purchase

A glass press on a breakfast table is a different product from a sealed brewer that can ride in a backpack. Neither of these exact versions is shatterproof, and neither is a vacuum-insulated travel vessel. If you want coffee to remain in the same container through a commute, compare a product designed for that use instead of choosing solely by appearance.

Choose Chambord for its metal frame and chrome finish; choose Brazil when the simpler plastic housing fits your routine. Confirm 34 oz, glass, and the stated color before checking out. Bodum offers several sizes and materials under familiar names, so the exact variant is more useful than the first product photograph in a search result.
