Nordic Ware 43100 vs USA Pan 1050HS: Uncoated or Nonstick Half Sheet?
Nordic Ware uses plain aluminum with a reinforced rim. USA Pan uses aluminized steel with a silicone-based nonstick surface. Your recipes and care habits should decide between them.
Best for
Home bakers choosing one rimmed half-sheet pan for cookies, roasting and general oven work.
Probably not for
A pan that is guaranteed to fit a countertop oven, dishwasher-only cleanup or assuming every nonstick pan can handle broiler use.

Nordic Ware Naturals Baker’s Half Sheet 43100, Single Pan
This plain aluminum Naturals pan has an encapsulated galvanized-steel rim and no applied nonstick coating. The manufacturer publishes a 500°F oven limit for this model. The linked item is a single half sheet, not a two-pack, Prism pan or high-sided version.
Pros
- An uncoated surface suits bakers who prefer to choose parchment, a mat or recipe-appropriate greasing.
- The published oven limit is 50°F higher than the USA Pan limit.
Cons
- Prolonged contact with acidic ingredients can darken or damage the aluminum.
- Dishwasher detergents can discolor the surface; hand washing is the recommended routine.
Who it’s for: Choose it for an uncoated surface and recipes within its temperature limit. Pass if you want built-in nonstick release without liners or greasing.

USA Pan’s current manufacturer page identifies its nonstick half sheet as item 1050HS-1. It uses aluminized steel, a fluted baking surface and the proprietary Americoat silicone coating. The exact single-pan listing has the same 17.75 by 12.75 by 1 inch outer dimensions.
Pros
- The applied nonstick surface is useful when food release is a priority.
- Its published baking surface is slightly larger despite slightly smaller outer dimensions.
Cons
- The manufacturer caps use at 450°F.
- The coating calls for nonmetal utensils, hand washing and avoiding cooking spray.
Who it’s for: Choose it for a coated pan when you will follow its care requirements. Pass if your regular recipes exceed 450°F or you habitually cut food directly in the pan.

Half sheet is a category, not a promise that every rim has identical dimensions. Nordic Ware’s outside is slightly larger, while USA Pan publishes a slightly larger baking surface. For oven fit, use the outer measurement including the rim. For a cooling rack, silicone liner or a recipe spread across the bottom, compare the usable interior dimensions.
This distinction matters most in a small oven. Measure rack space with the door able to close and leave the clearances the oven requires. Do not assume that a tray called half sheet will fit just because another tray of that name did. A pan forced against the walls is the wrong size even if its surface area looks ideal for the recipe.
A coating changes the routine, not just the label
With plain aluminum, you choose how to prepare the surface for each recipe. That flexibility suits someone who already uses parchment for cookies and oil for vegetables. The USA Pan surface adds a nonstick coating, but its instructions still say to follow recipe directions for greasing and flouring. Nonstick is not a universal instruction to ignore the recipe.
Ask who will wash and use the pan. If a household regularly reaches for metal spatulas or cuts bars directly in the tray, preserving a coating takes a deliberate change in habits. Neither pan should be treated as scratch-proof. Choose the care routine people will realistically follow instead of expecting the material to compensate for every utensil choice.
Use the lower limit in the whole setup
Nordic Ware currently specifies oven use up to 500°F for this pan; USA Pan specifies a maximum of 450°F. Those are manufacturer limits, not independent heat-stress test results. A recipe above 450°F rules out this exact USA Pan unless the recipe can appropriately be changed. It does not follow that the Nordic Ware is automatically suitable for every broiler, grill or open flame.
Any liner, rack or accessory also has its own instructions. If a pan is rated for a higher temperature than the parchment on it, the parchment remains a constraint. Match the entire setup to the cooking method and avoid inferring permission for direct flame from an oven-temperature specification.
Choose the material around the meals you repeat
For frequent tomato-heavy or vinegar-rich cooking, Nordic Ware specifically warns that prolonged exposure to acidic ingredients can affect aluminum. Consider how food is handled after cooking as well as during it; a baking tray is not automatically the right place to leave leftovers. For USA Pan, protect the coating with the recommended utensils and cleaning method.
Choose the Naturals 43100 if an uncoated surface and higher stated oven ceiling fit your recipes. Choose the 1050HS if nonstick release is useful and 450°F is enough. This comparison does not claim one browns cookies more evenly, lasts longer or eliminates warping. Those would require controlled testing beyond the construction and care information reviewed here.
