Reolink E1 Pro vs Tapo C225 Indoor Pan/Tilt Camera
Reolink combines 5MP 3K video with dual-band Wi-Fi and several local recording paths. Tapo uses 4MP 2K video, 2.4GHz Wi-Fi, a physical lens-conceal privacy mode and HomeKit support.
Best for
Households choosing a powered indoor pan/tilt camera for pets, entry areas or general room monitoring with a local microSD option.
Probably not for
Outdoor exposure, covert monitoring, a medical or safety guarantee, battery-powered placement, or any room where occupants have not consented to recording.

Reolink E1 Pro 5MP Indoor Camera
The current E1 Pro uses a 5MP sensor with 2880 by 1616 recording, an F1.6 lens, motorized pan and tilt, person and pet detection, auto tracking and baby-cry alerts. It connects on either 2.4GHz or 5GHz Wi-Fi and supports two-way audio. Reolink documents microSD cards up to 512GB plus compatible NVR, Home Hub and FTP or NAS paths. App Privacy Mode turns the camera away and disables monitoring.
Pros
- Dual-band Wi-Fi gives a choice between 2.4GHz reach and a compatible 5GHz network.
- The 5MP image specification and NVR, Home Hub and FTP/NAS options offer more local-system paths than a card alone.
Cons
- Its app-triggered privacy mode is not the same physical on-device button and concealed-lens presentation as the C225.
- The official page lists Google Assistant support, while the C225 explicitly supports Apple HomeKit, Alexa and Google Assistant.
Who it’s for: Choose it for 5MP recording, dual-band Wi-Fi or a planned Reolink local recorder. Skip it when HomeKit or a camera-body privacy button is essential.

Tapo specifies 4MP 2K QHD video at 2688 by 1520, frame-rate choices up to 30 fps, 360-degree horizontal coverage and 149-degree vertical coverage. The C225 V2 includes person, pet, vehicle, sound and baby-cry detection, motion tracking and two-way audio. A button rotates the lens into the housing for visible privacy. It supports 2.4GHz Wi-Fi, microSD cards up to 512GB and optional Tapo Care cloud storage, plus HomeKit, Alexa and Google Assistant.
Pros
- The physical privacy button visibly conceals the lens instead of relying only on an app setting.
- HomeKit support and multiple voice-assistant integrations fit a broader set of smart-home platforms.
Cons
- Network connectivity is 2.4GHz only, unlike the Reolink dual-band connection.
- Its 4MP 2688 by 1520 maximum contains fewer pixels than the E1 Pro 5MP specification.
Who it’s for: Choose it for visible lens concealment, HomeKit or the documented 30 fps option. Skip it when 5GHz Wi-Fi or Reolink recorder integration is the priority.
Check TP-Link Tapo C225 V2 Indoor Camera on Amazon Paid linkResolution differs, but placement still controls usefulness
Reolink publishes 2880 by 1616 for the 5MP E1 Pro. Tapo publishes 2688 by 1520 for its 4MP 2K C225. The Reolink file can contain more pixels, but that does not guarantee a more useful image in every room. Lighting, compression, viewing angle, subject motion and how far the subject is from the camera all affect recognizable detail.
Both camera heads pan and tilt, but movement does not let one camera see through furniture or walls. Mount where the intended zone remains visible and where power and Wi-Fi are stable. Avoid pointing into a neighbor's property or a private area, and check local audio-recording and surveillance rules before enabling microphones or continuous recording.
Privacy mode is implemented differently
The Tapo C225 has a physical privacy button that rotates and hides its lens in the body. That visible state can be reassuring in a living room or shared office. Reolink offers Privacy Mode through its app, turning the lens away and disabling monitoring, but the control experience is different.
Neither feature replaces account security. Use a unique password, multi-factor authentication when offered, current firmware and the least account sharing necessary. A camera should not be treated as a substitute for attentive childcare, elder care, emergency response or a certified alarm system.
Both offer local cards, while ecosystem choices separate them
Each manufacturer supports a microSD card up to 512GB, sold separately. Local recording still needs a compatible card, correct recording settings and periodic checks that files are actually being written. Storage duration varies with resolution, frame rate, compression, event frequency and continuous versus event-only recording.
Reolink additionally documents NVR, Home Hub and FTP/NAS options, which can matter when several Reolink cameras will share storage. Tapo offers optional Tapo Care cloud service and broader published smart-home compatibility, including Apple HomeKit. Review which features remain local and which need an account or subscription before choosing the ecosystem.
Choose the network and privacy workflow you will use
Choose E1 Pro for dual-band Wi-Fi, 5MP video or a Reolink-centered recording system. Choose C225 for visible lens concealment, HomeKit and its specified 2K 30 fps mode. Detection labels are convenience filters rather than guarantees that every person, pet, cry or event will be classified correctly.
Confirm the exact listing and hardware version because similarly named E1, E1 Zoom, C220 and C225 models have different sensors and integrations. Plan camera placement, notification zones, retention and household consent before purchase. The webcam comparison is a better match when the real need is video calls at a desk instead of room monitoring.
