Apple AirTag, 2nd Generation, One Pack
The current second-generation AirTag works through Apple’s Find My network and adds second-generation Ultra Wideband for Precision Finding with supported iPhones. Apple lists Bluetooth, NFC, a built-in speaker, IP67 resistance and a user-replaceable CR2032 battery with more than one year of stated life under ordinary use.
Pros
- Supported iPhones can use directional Precision Finding in addition to sound and map-based Find My information.
- The CR2032 battery is replaceable rather than permanently sealed.
Cons
- Android phones cannot perform the owner setup and finding workflow.
- Keys or a bag loop require a separate holder because the round tag has no attachment hole.
Who it’s for: Choose it for a supported Apple household that values Find My and directional nearby guidance. Pass if the owner uses Android or wants a built-in keyring hole.

The current Life360-branded Tile Mate is a square Bluetooth tracker compatible with iOS and Android through the Life360 app. Life360 states a range of up to 350 feet under ideal conditions, sound above 100 dB, a built-in keyring hole and a sealed battery intended to last up to three years.
Pros
- Cross-platform iOS and Android support suits households that do not use one phone brand.
- The integrated opening attaches to many keyrings without buying a separate holder.
Cons
- Its sealed battery is not replaceable, so the tracker becomes a replacement item when the battery is depleted.
- It does not offer AirTag-style Ultra Wideband directional guidance.
Who it’s for: Choose it for cross-platform phone support and direct keyring attachment. Pass if replaceable power or Apple Precision Finding is the deciding feature.

AirTag setup requires an Apple Account and an iPhone or iPad running the current supported operating system. Its map, lost-item sharing and nearby direction features live in Find My. Tile Mate uses the Life360 app and supports both iOS and Android. A mixed-phone household should decide who will own and manage the tracker before choosing the hardware.
Compatibility is more specific than installing an app. Apple’s second-generation Precision Finding requires a supported iPhone with the appropriate Ultra Wideband hardware, while other compatible Apple devices can still use Find My functions without every directional feature. Check the exact phone model and software version, especially when the intended recipient keeps an older phone.
Neither product is a live GPS beacon
Both trackers use Bluetooth for nearby finding and rely on participating phones or devices to help report a lost item’s location when it is farther away. The Tile page’s up-to-350-foot figure is an ideal-condition Bluetooth statement, not a guaranteed radius through walls or in a crowded building. Apple does not publish one fixed Bluetooth range for AirTag.
A map location can be delayed, approximate or unavailable when no participating device is nearby. Do not use either product as the only way to protect a child, pet, vehicle or time-critical equipment. They are item finders, not emergency-location services. Follow all consent and local-law requirements, and never use a tracker to monitor a person without their knowledge.
Battery and attachment create different ownership routines
AirTag’s CR2032 battery can be replaced by opening the stainless-steel cover. Apple states more than one year of battery life, but actual life depends on use. Tile Mate’s battery is sealed and stated for up to three years, after which the tracker itself must be replaced. Keep all coin-cell batteries and opened trackers away from children and follow the maker’s disposal guidance.
Tile Mate includes a hole for a keyring. AirTag needs a holder, loop or compatible pocket for many objects, so account for that accessory and its fit. For luggage, make sure the holder cannot snag easily. For either tracker, test the sound and app before a trip and verify the device remains associated with the intended account.
Treat resistance ratings as accident protection
Apple rates the second-generation AirTag IP67 under IEC 60529, describing up to one meter of water for 30 minutes in laboratory conditions. Life360 says Tile trackers withstand splashes and immersion to the same depth and duration. Resistance can diminish with wear, and neither statement turns the product into dive equipment or guarantees survival after every wash cycle.
Choose AirTag for a supported Apple setup, replaceable battery and Precision Finding. Choose Tile Mate for Android support, a built-in attachment hole and a longer sealed-battery interval. Confirm the exact generation on the listing: this guide links the second-generation AirTag and the current Life360 Tile Mate, not older Apple or Tile variants. No recovery rate or range was independently tested here.
